If you are searching for Wegovy in Dubai or considering weight loss injections, there is something important you need to understand first.
Wegovy is now FDA-approved in selected patients with MASH, a more advanced form of fatty liver, but it is not for everyone. The key decision is not based on weight alone. It depends on your liver stage.
This short video explains why liver assessment matters before deciding whether Wegovy is appropriate.
Is Wegovy FDA-approved for fatty liver or MASH?
Wegovy received FDA accelerated approval for adults with noncirrhotic MASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis. MASH is a more advanced stage of fatty liver where inflammation and scarring can develop.
This does not mean every patient with fatty liver needs Wegovy. It means selected patients may qualify if their liver disease has reached the right stage and treatment is clinically appropriate.
What is MASH?
MASH stands for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis. In simple terms, it means fatty liver with inflammation.
This matters because inflammation can lead to liver scarring, also called fibrosis. The treatment decision changes when fatty liver is no longer just fat, but inflammation with fibrosis risk.
Does everyone with fatty liver need Wegovy?
No. Most patients with fatty liver do not need medication such as Wegovy.
Fatty liver exists on a spectrum. Some patients have mild fatty liver that can improve with lifestyle and metabolic changes. Others may have MASH or fibrosis, where medical treatment may be considered.
The decision depends on liver stage, not weight alone.
How do you qualify for Wegovy in Dubai?
Qualification depends on objective liver assessment. This includes looking for liver inflammation, fibrosis, and metabolic risk factors.
In Dubai, this information may also be important for medical insurance, because GLP-1 treatment may require evidence that the medication is being used for medical necessity rather than weight loss alone.
Is FibroScan needed before Wegovy treatment?
A FibroScan is a non-invasive bedside test that measures liver fat and liver stiffness. Liver stiffness helps assess fibrosis, or liver scarring.
This can help determine whether fatty liver is mild or whether there is evidence of more advanced disease where treatment may be considered.

Does insurance cover Wegovy for fatty liver in Dubai?
Insurance coverage depends on the individual policy and medical criteria. In some cases, documented liver disease severity, including fibrosis assessment, may support the medical justification for GLP-1 therapy.
This is why proper liver staging matters before treatment is requested or prescribed.
Why does specialist assessment matter?
Wegovy should not be viewed simply as a weight loss injection in this context. In selected patients, it may form part of a medical strategy for MASH.
