Q&A: The Gut–Brain Connection for Dubai Patients
How does stress affect digestion?
During anxiety, the brain releases stress hormones that alter gut movement, slow digestion, and change acid levels. That’s why people often feel cramps, nausea, or loss of appetite during stressful periods.
Can your gut affect your mood?
Yes. An unbalanced or inflamed gut sends signals that may contribute to feeling tired, irritable, or foggy. The gut helps produce and regulate key brain chemicals—such as serotonin and dopamine—linked to mood and focus.
Can food change how your brain feels?
Diet shapes the gut environment. A Mediterranean or plant-forward pattern—fibre, olive oil, legumes, vegetables, and fermented foods—generally supports a healthier gut–brain dialogue.
When should you see a gastroenterologist in Dubai?
Consider a specialist review if you have persistent stomach pain, bloating, heartburn, or altered bowel habits. Because stress can worsen Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, ruling these out early is important.
